GEMS Event: ENgaGE Symposium "Navigating the Nexus of Gaming and Extremism" Athens, Greece. 26 June 2025

The South-East Europe Programme of the Hellenic Foundation for European and Foreign Policy (ELIAMEP) is hosting the ENgaGE Symposium, a landmark event that puts the spotlight on the intersection of gaming and extremism—a critical issue that has gained increasing global attention. The event is taking place on 26 June 2025 at the European Parliament Offices in Athens (8 Vasilissis Amalias Avenue). This symposium marks the first-ever gathering in Greece dedicated to addressing the risks and challenges posed by extremist activities within gaming ecosystems.

Organized within the framework of the GEMS Project, this symposium is also the debut event of the European Network Against Gaming-Related Extremism (ENgaGE), a newly established collaborative initiative dedicated to tackling radicalization within online gaming environments. With a diverse group of policymakers, law enforcement authorities, gaming industry representatives, academics, and civil society actors in attendance, the symposium will provide a holistic, multi-sector approach to understanding and countering extremism in gaming featuring three panel discussions and a dedicated session on AI-driven tools for countering extremism.

One of the key highlights of the event will be the unveiling of the Watchtower Tool, a groundbreaking AI-driven technology developed under the GEMS Project. Designed to enhance detection and prevention of extremist activities in gaming spaces, this innovative tool will support European Law Enforcement Authorities (LEAs) and gaming industry stakeholders in fostering safer digital environments for young users and communities.
